Enthusiasm, the

That certain people can give us is more important than knowledge

October 8th 2012
If you happen to meet someone who gives you a taste for life and for doing good, and after speaking with that person or just listening to them you feel full of courage and hope, be aware that this is infinitely more precious than any kind of intellectual knowledge you could have acquired, for that knowledge too often leaves you parched and exhausted. To spend each day with people who give you an impetus, a desire to do things and a love for what you are doing is far preferable to the company of people with encyclopaedic knowledge who are unable to awaken your ardour or enthusiasm. You will say, ‘But we still have to acquire some knowledge in life!’ Yes, of course, but if you are also good-humoured, full of love, joy and enthusiasm, you will find it easier to acquire.
