Go deeper

Instead of becoming scattered; example of the oil well

February 27th 2013
Our whole life is nothing but the same activities repeating themselves: breathing, feeding ourselves, sleeping, working, loving, thinking, and so on. So, accept the fact that I come back time and again to these same subjects, because by going deeper into them you discover them each time in a new form, with new colours, new dimensions and new expressions. Do not let yourself be influenced by the present tendency to spread yourself thin, to want to know about everything and go everywhere. To be inquiring is not a bad thing, but what benefit do you derive from remaining on the surface of things? And this tendency is spreading to spiritual people too. Instead of studying a few truths more deeply and applying a few methods, they become interested in a lot of theories and practices inherited from every era and continent, and then they are surprised they feel so disorientated. Well, there are materialists who know how to go about it better. What do those who are looking for oil do? They do not stop drilling after a few feet; they bore wells deep down into the ground. And one day they strike oil, and then they are very rich. That is where you see that materialists are often more intelligent than spiritual people: they have understood that if you dig deep, a few square feet are enough, whereas if you remain on the surface, even if you cover thousands of acres you are still destitute.
