Guiding others towards the light is the most difficult of all

Many jobs are difficult, but leading human beings along the way of light and divine love is the most difficult of all. This requires the preparation of many incarnations; one must even be created specifically for such a calling.
Yet so many people imagine they are capable of guiding others! They ‘set up shop’ to attract disciples, to whom they deliver fine speeches but, unfortunately, that is not enough. For it never occurs to them to correct all their own many deficiencies and imperfections, and these are clearly reflected in the advice, teaching and guidance they give. This is why instead of getting their disciples to climb up the steep tracks toward the sublime heights, they direct them along wandering paths scattered with pitfalls. Indeed, they themselves are often dragged over a precipice.*
