Level of consciousness

It determines destiny

Moles live underground, far from the light, and to move around they have to dig long tunnels in the ground, which are sometimes destroyed by a farmer’s plough. This dark and limited life probably suits them because they are moles; they can imagine no other.*
The life of a fish is freer than that of a mole; the environment in which fish live and move is lighter and more spacious. But the life of birds is freer still: the wide open spaces are theirs; they are free to sing and rejoice in the sunlight. Moles (earth), fish (water) and birds (air) are symbols that correspond to different levels of consciousness, and it is the level of consciousness that determines destiny.
