God in the book of exodus

‘i will be who i will be’

June 29th 2024
In the Book of Exodus it is written that when God entrusted Moses with the mission of freeing the Hebrews from the Egyptian yoke, Moses replied: ‘If I come to the Israelites and say to them, “The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,” and they ask me, “What is his name?” what shall I say to them?’ Then God replied: ‘Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh’ (the literal meaning of which is ‘I will be who I will be’). And God added: ‘Thus you shall say to the Israelites: “I will be” has sent me to you.’
God names Himself ‘I will be’ in order to show that He is not fully manifested. He is the Being of sublime becoming, He whom we can neither see, nor hear, nor touch.*
