It will not bend its laws for you

Nature is implacable and unyielding. Sob, scream and threaten as much as you like, but nature will not bend her laws for you. It is up to you to incline to her will and attune yourself to her. You will say that she is cruel, but this is not so. She wants her sons and daughters to be healthy and happy.
But when she sees how hard-headed they are, what can you expect? Her job is to see that those heads mature, and to do this she is obliged to knock them about a bit. And sometimes, if they do not understand quickly, those blows become terrible. Nature does not wish to destroy human beings. No, she has worked far too hard to give them life and to sustain this life, to decide now to wipe them out. But she wants to educate them, and this is why, as long as people behave like undisciplined, disobedient children, they will be taught lessons.*
