Lower nature

More often than not, it is our lower nature that advises us

Observe yourself, and you will find that you are always ready to follow the advice of your lower nature. When it tells you, ‘Look at him, he cheated on you, he has wronged you, you should teach him a lesson!’ you readily obey your lower nature, believing you are right and that justice is on your side. Well, it is not, and from now on you must be able to analyze where each impulse comes from. You will find that, more often than not, it is your lower self that is advising you and, if so, know that nothing good will come of it.
It takes years to acquire this discernment, it is not that easy. In fact, it is very subtle, because the lower nature can take on so many different deceptive voices and appearances. A true Initiate is precisely a person who has practised all their life to distinguish between the impulses originating from their lower self, and those which come from their higher Self. You might say, ‘Is that all?’ Yes, but everything depends on this discernment. As long as you do not work at acquiring it, you will be weak, sickly and unhappy.
