Sun

A symbol that enables us to find god

Everything that appears on earth eventually disappears. Only the sun remains above us, unchanging and eternal, and it is to the sun that we should turn our gaze. For when we seek truth we must look to that which is permanent and unchangeable. Generally, human beings either neglect the sun or exaggerate its role. They either think that it has nothing to do with religion or they idolize and worship it.
Well no, they are mistaken in both cases. By refusing to give the sun a place in their inner life, they are depriving themselves of something essential. But if they treat it as an idol, they are reverting to the mentality of primitive peoples who worshipped the forces of nature. The sun must simply serve as a symbol, a means that enables us to find God, our inner sun. When we contemplate the sun, expose ourselves to its rays, and identify with it, light, warmth and life grow within us every day.*
