Serpent and the dove
Two symbols of sexual energy
September 10th 2025
The serpent and the dove* symbolize the same energy: sexual energy. The dove is none other than the serpent sublimated. It teaches us that everything that crawls on the ground must one day learn to fly. The serpent represents primitive sexual energy, and it is very, very cunning. Indeed, in Genesis it says, ‘the serpent was more crafty than any other wild animal that the Lord God had made.’
It would be impossible to enumerate all the ways in which human beings have attempted to escape from the serpent, but it always gets the better of them. It arranges things in such a way that they are caught in its snares. Some people say, ‘I will not to succumb to temptation, I will resist.’ But as they fail to foresee the trap the serpent has laid for them, at the last minute, whoosh, they fall into it. And they will keep doing so until they succeed in transforming the serpent within them into a dove; that is to say, in transforming their human love into divine love.
