'From now on nutrition will be considered one of the best yogas there is, although it has never been mentioned anywhere. All the other yogas1 – Raja, Karma, Laya, Jnana, Kriya, Agni yoga – are magnificent, but it takes years to obtain the least result, whereas with Hrani yoga* (this is what I call it) the results are very quick. This is the easiest and most accessible yoga; it is practised by all creatures without exception, although unconsciously for the moment. All alchemy and magic are contained in this yoga, which until now has been the most underrated and the most misunderstood. It is unbelievable that even intelligent people have never realized the secrets hidden in nutrition.

Try, if only for a week, to eat according to the rules I am giving you. Obviously, you will notice that it is difficult to keep quiet during meals and concentrate only on the food… Or else, if you succeed in being quiet externally, you are making a noise inside… Or again, if you manage to be quiet inside, your thoughts wander elsewhere. This is why I am telling you that nutrition is a yoga, for knowing how to eat requires concentration, attention, mastery, but also intelligence, love and willpower.

By knowing how to eat in silence and with reverence, you create an atmosphere of peace and light, in which all divine realizations are possible. You receive revelations, inspiration: poets are inspired to write their best poems; musicians hear the most beautiful symphonies in their soul; painters see the most beautiful pictures appear before them. Seekers find the solution to the problems they face. Those who need the right conditions for rediscovering peace and health find these conditions, and newcomers are struck by this wonderful, purifying atmosphere. These benefits are due simply to a reasonable and spiritual way of eating. In fact, nutrition must be understood as a work of spirit on matter.

Food is not ready, just as it is, to be absorbed, assimilated and distributed throughout the body. It must be tamed and befriended; otherwise it remains foreign matter and does not vibrate in unison with our organism.

If I am constantly repeating that we must get into the habit of eating our meals in silence, with reverence, love and gratitude, it is because this way of eating can change the food so profoundly that it no longer contains any foreign particle. Each particle that does not vibrate in tune with the organism upsets it. If so many people are ill, it is because they do not know how to eat: they have accumulated too many substances within which have not been adequately tamed, and these become waste matter inside them. Only love can transform the matter we absorb.

So, a great deal depends on us as to whether or not the food is accepted by our organism, and prayers and blessings before meals serve in fact to influence the food favorably and to prepare it to be absorbed.'
